How we make our tips
Built from thousands of real experiences — and where a plain checked fact serves you better, we say that instead.
Most of what you'll read here is distilled from real experiences people shared publicly — what they tried for an everyday problem, what helped, and what backfired. A few pages are plainer than that: practical guidance checked against a trustworthy source, or an idea we borrowed and credited. Every page carries its own line saying which it is, right under the title, so you never have to guess.
Sometimes many people, sometimes one
Most tips are the pattern across many people who faced the same thing. Some are one person’s hard-won experience, and those say so plainly — the badge on each tip tells you which, and how much reading it came out of. A single honest voice is worth keeping; it just isn’t a crowd, so we never dress it up as one.
AI does the reading; a human decides what needs a human
We use AI to read across that mountain of shared experience and pull out what actually recurs. Anything touching a crisis, someone’s safety, medical ground, or a checkable factual claim is read by a person before it’s published. It’s shared experience, gathered with care — not professional advice, and not a substitute for a doctor, therapist, or counselor for your specific situation.
We show what backfired, too
Real experience includes the warnings. Where people cautioned that something went wrong for them, we keep that — it’s in the "Worth knowing before you try" box on each tip. Honest help includes the caveats.
When the library misses, we hear it, and the library grows
When a search or a question finds nothing — or the answer didn’t fit and you ask Angel to try — the site can send us the query text — truncated, with no identity, history, or IP attached, and never anything that looks like a crisis. A human volunteer reads these, distills the real gaps, and then they’re deleted. Every question the library couldn’t answer today, it can answer tomorrow. (More in our Privacy Policy.)
What this isn’t
We’re a library of shared practical experience, a directory that points to real-world help, a listening companion (Angel), and a few self-guided tools. We’re not a crisis line, and not a healthcare or counseling provider. If you’re in a hard moment, call or text 988 — or we’re here.
