About Angel

Angel is an AI listening companion for everyday weights — a hard day, money stress, feeling stuck or alone. It was designed by volunteers who answer crisis lines, and it’s honest about what it is.

Angel will always tell you it’s AI

Angel is a computer program, not a person, and it says so. We think that matters: a trust-first nonprofit shouldn’t let anyone believe a machine is a human — especially in a hard moment. The warmth is real; the honesty is the point.

What Angel is — and isn’t

• Angel is a listening companion: somewhere to put words when you need to.
• Angel is not a human, and not a replacement for one.
• Angel is not a counselor or therapist, and does not provide therapy, counseling, diagnosis, or treatment.
• Angel is not a crisis line. For a trained human, any time, call or text 988.
• Angel starts fresh each session — it doesn’t remember previous conversations.

For ages 13 and up

The chat is meant for people 13 or older. If you’re younger, please don’t use the chat — and know that the help on our support page, including calling or texting 988, is there for everyone, and a trusted adult can help you reach it.

How Angel responds in a hard, dangerous moment

Angel has one job when someone talks about suicide or self-harm: point to real human help, right away. It will not try to counsel you through a crisis or talk you out of it — a machine shouldn’t be the thing standing between a person and the help they need. Instead, Angel gently and clearly offers the988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), and the other real people and places in our support and resource pages.

Your privacy

We designed Angel so that we do not store, read, or use your conversations. Your side of the conversation lives in your browser and disappears when you close the tab. Conversations with an AI aren’t legally private the way talking to a licensed professional can be, so it’s wise not to share details that identify you or others.
